Wargrave Tennis

A Great Place to Play Tennis in Berkshire

A tennis club for all ages and standards from beginner to advanced level

Club Overview

Welcome to Wargrave Tennis Club. We are a friendly club that promotes social and competitive play for all standards and all ages. We have some of the best playing facilities in Berkshire, including 6 high-quality all-weather hard courts; and from April 2024, a further 2 courts with a modern all-weather artificial clay surface. In 2022, all our courts were upgraded to competition level LED floodlighting. Watch the video below to find out more. New members are always welcome.

Our Courts

slide 1
We believe that we have some of the best playing facilities in the County. From April 2024, all members will have free access to 2 new all-weather artificial clay courts, together with 6 courts with a high-quality all-weather hard-court surface.

In 2022, we upgraded all eight courts to a competition standard LED floodlighting. As shown in the drone video below, this provides players with a brighter and more consistent light than the older lighting that we had. Play is possible on all courts until 10pm all year round.

We also have a ball machine and a Rebo hitting wall (on court 8) for those occasions when you want to work on your consistency or warm up for a match when a hitting partner is unavailable.

For future court improvements, if the new artificial clay courts prove to be popular, the committee have promised to look at plans for a further 2 artificial clay courts in the next 12-18 months. In addition, we are planning to introduce Pickle Tennis from June 2024.

Social Tennis

We have social play club sessions on
  • Mondays 09:00 to 11:00
  • Tuesdays 19:00 to 21:00
  • Wednesdays 09:00 to 11:00
  • Thursdays 19:00 to 21:00
  • Sundays 10:00 to 12:00
The Tuesday and Thursday club sessions are run by one of our coaches who will rotate players to ensure that the pairings are well balanced and everyone gets a competitive match, albeit in a friendly atmosphere.

These sessions are ideal for new members to get to know everyone and for the coach to asses their ability.

Singles League

We run a singles 'box league' which is run via the LTA website

The box league is run on a 6 to 8 week cycle. There are around 6 players in each box. During the cycle, all players will play the others in their box and record their results online. At the end of each cycle, the top 2 players will move up and the bottom 2 will move down.

Juniors

There are junior club nights with LTA registerd coaches for ages 10–18 years (members only) which start after the Easter holidays. Fridays 4:30 – 5:30pm

Younger members (age 4–9) also have their own dedicated session on Friday from 4:30 – 5:30pm. These run after the Easter holidays through to Autumn half term but are dependant on term times and the weather. Check with the coaches for further information.

Juniors also have their own singles 'box league' which is run via the LTA website

We run several junior teams that play in the LTA Leagues against other clubs in the Berkshire area.
