Wargrave Tennis

A Great Place to Play Tennis in Berkshire

A tennis club for all ages and standards from beginner to advanced level

Club Overview

Welcome to Wargrave Tennis Club! We are a friendly club that promotes social and competitive play for all standards and all ages. We have some of the best playing facilities in Berkshire, attracting members from surrounding areas in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire such as Twyford, Henley, Maidenhead, Reading, Woodley, Sonning, Hurst, Charvil and beyond! There are 8 courts in total. 6 high quality all-weather hard courts and 2 all-weather artificial clay courts (new in 2024!). All courts benefit from competition level LED floodlighting.

Our Courts

slide 1
We believe that we have some of the best playing facilities to be found in Berkshire and the surrounding counties of Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. All members have free access to 2 brand new all-weather artificial clay courts, together with 6 courts with a high-quality all-weather hard-court surface.

In 2022, we upgraded all eight courts to a competition standard LED floodlighting. As shown in the drone video below, this provides players with a brighter and more consistent light than previous generation lighting. Play is possible on all courts until 10pm all year round.

We also have a ball machine and a Rebo hitting wall (on court 8) for those occasions when you want to work on your consistency or warm up for a match when a hitting partner is unavailable.

For future court improvements, if the new artificial clay courts prove to be popular, the committee have promised to look at plans for a further 2 artificial clay courts in the next 12-18 months. In addition, we are planning to introduce Pickle Tennis from June 2024.

Social Tennis

We have social play club sessions on
  • Mondays 09:00 to 11:00

  • Wednesdays 09:00 to 11:00

  • Sundays 10:00 to 12:00
During Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday sessions, players are rotated to ensure that pairings are well balanced and everyone gets a competitive match, albeit in a friendly atmosphere.

Singles League

We run a singles 'box league' which is run via the LTA website

The box league is run on a 6 to 8 week cycle. There are around 6 players in each box. During the cycle, all players will play the others in their box and record their results online. At the end of each cycle, the top 2 players will move up and the bottom 2 will move down.

There are junior club nights with LTA registered coaches for ages 10–18 years (members only) which start after the Easter holidays. Fridays 4:30 – 5:30pm

Younger members (age 4–9) also have their own dedicated session on Friday from 4:30 – 5:30pm. These run after the Easter holidays through to Autumn half term but are dependent on term times and the weather. Check with the coaches for further information.

Juniors also have their own singles 'box league' which is run via the LTA website

We run several junior teams that play in the LTA Leagues against other clubs in the Berkshire area.

Ladies Tennis

We believe that sport can be one of the most powerful platforms for promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls. However, in an era when we’re now seeing women’s sport in general increasingly getting a greater, but not yet fair, share of the headlines and coverage, more progress is still needed, including in tennis. Together with the LTA, Wargrave Tennis club is aiming to increase participation of women and girls at the club. Please speak to our membership secretary Wendy, or Ladies captain Sue for further information.
